ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ Day at the fair scheduled Aug. 4

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ Day at the Tanana Valley State Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ employees, students, alumni and friends will receive $1 off admission by wearing ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ apparel or showing their PolarExpress card. The day will include ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ activities throughout the fairgrounds.

The University Fire Department’s fire truck, a hockey goal, a corn hole game and the giant inflatable Nanook will be set up in Totem Square from noon to 7 p.m. Nook, ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ’s mascot, will be on site from 1-3 p.m.

Inside the Borealis Pavilion and outside in Totem Square, ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ will have several special exhibits and activities:

• Pick up free ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ swag and learn about research and ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ classes.
• Explore marine science inside an inflatable science dome.
• Paddle through an interactive controller-free video game
• Learn about reindeer and muskoxen through interactive displays.
• Discover noncredit classes, lectures and workshops with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

In addition to special ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ Day activities, ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ will have several booths in the Borealis Pavilion during the entire duration of the fair. Visitors can explore career-focused programs via the ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ Community and Technical College and find more than 125 free ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ Cooperative Extension Service publications covering gardening, energy, food preparation and more. Cooperative Extension’s 4-H program will also have displays, shows and activities at multiple locations throughout the fair from opening day to the final day of the fair on Sunday, Aug. 9.
